Antarctica Exhibition around the Europe
INSIDE THE OCEANOGRAFIC MUSEUM OF VALENCIA, TUESDAY 28 FEBRUARY 2012, THE NATURALIST ANTONIO MIRABELLA, WILL OPEN THE PHOTOGRAPHIC EXHIBITION ABOUT ANTARCTICA. THE EXHIBITION TELL THE ANTARCTIC CAMPAIGN 2010 EXPERIENCED BY HIMSELF.
The Oceanographic museum of Valencia offers a fascinating journey through suggestive landscapes not accessible to the common traveller. This is a place where the only existent community consists of a small group of scientists operating in extreme climatic conditions. Antonio Mirabella, presents the images captured on the Antarctic Peninsula. He also summarizes his first-person experience of the 2010 Antarctic Campaign*. An inedited video, supported by sounds and music, and shot during the Antarctic Campaign, introduces the visitor to the biggest marine park in Europe. The various phases of the journey are pieced together through the photographs displayed in the pavilion. Here several blue-azure tones, realized with some special effects, let the visitors approach the distinctive colour of the thousand year-old glaciers. The exhibition offers the chance to observe and discover some samples of volcanic rock, lichens and mosses that the Palermitan naturalist collected during his research activities in the Antarctic Peninsula. Yet another peculiarity of the exhibition is given by the several displayed fossils which date back to the forest cover existent on the Antarctic Continent in remote epochs. The finds exhibited are: mineralized woods of two species of conifers and parts of a tree-fern. A little collection of sea stars and seashells coming from antarctic seas complete the finds.
